There are things that serve only as a practical attribute of the interior. And there are furniture that goes down in art history, becomes symbols of eras and decorates the most stylish living rooms in the world.
It is such a legendary object that awaits guests at our hotel. Today we will reveal the secret of the famous lip-shaped sofa - how Salvador Dali's surrealist whim turned into an icon of pop art and why it perfectly fit into the concept of Emigrand Art Hotel.

It all began in the 1930s with the passionate admiration of the scandalously famous genius of surrealism Salvador Dali for the American actress Mae West - the sex symbol of the cinema of that time, known for her sharp language and incredible magnetism.
The master of the outrageous did not limit himself to a classic portrait. Instead, he decided to turn the actress's face into a surreal room. And in 1935, an illusion room appeared - the hair became curtains, the eyes - paintings, the nose - a fireplace, and the plump, bright red lips of the film star turned into a spectacular sofa.
Already in 1937, Dali, together with the British patron Edward James, turned this idea into reality, creating the first copy from pink satin. It was a daring challenge to all the canons of correct design at that time.

Years passed, eras changed, but the image of the lips did not lose its magic. In the 1970s, the Italian design studio Studio 65 rethought Dali's idea and created a new version of the sofa called Bocca (from the Italian "mouth"). This time, the main inspiration was the sensual lips of another iconic blonde - Marilyn Monroe.
It was during this period that the image of lips finally emigrated from mysterious surrealism to bright, clear and rebellious pop art. Lips became a symbol of:
This sofa appeared on the covers of fashion magazines, in rock star clips and in the homes of world celebrities, firmly linking design with female energy, which has always inspired artists to bold experiments.

When you cross the threshold of our hotel, you enter a world where the philosophy of pop art reigns: bright, bold, free from frames. Therefore, the appearance of this iconic sofa in our interior was absolutely logical and inevitable.
We adore the irony and play of meanings that artists of the last century put into this image. For us, this sofa is not just a comfortable place to relax, but a manifesto of creativity and emigration into a space of pure art and comfort.
The main visual highlight of our hotel was a unique pop art collage on the Uzh embankment. In it, a spectacular model poses on an iconic sofa, but instead of the usual studio decorations, the familiar landscape of our native Uzhgorod embankment unfolds in the background.
This frame embodies the whole spirit of Emigrand - we take world visual culture, add a pinch of surreal humor and transfer all this to a local context. An elegant vacation on the banks of the Uzh River - isn't this the perfect plot that inspires you to create your own masterpieces. And the legendary sofa is waiting for you in one of the rooms of the Emigrand Art Hotel!
This is the perfect place to:
